Lawrence Welk was an American musician, accordionist, and bandleader who became famous for his television show, "The Lawrence Welk Show," which aired from 1951 to 1982. Although he was primarily known as a bandleader, he was also a skilled piano player and often played piano solos on his show. Welk was born on March 11, 1903, in Strasburg, North Dakota, and began playing the accordion at a young age. He formed his first band in the 1920s and went on to have a successful career in both radio and television. Welk was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1993, and his show continues to air in reruns on public television stations across the country.
